The templates were invented early 2016 in the UK and from June till December 2016 they have evolved both in their appearance and sets.
As for every invention the early stages are critical to the development of the refined product and we are now at the 3rd Generation of templates.
The different sets available had also to be changed due to the rising cost of materials brought on by “Brexit” so that I could keep the costs down rather than putting my prices up. The same reason applies for the change of colours to white.
In 2017, I shall be sourcing a manufacturer to produce the templates in the United States though it is worth considering that this will require thousands of Pounds of original investment for this to happen.
So until this is possible, the templates will remain available from the United Kingdom.
The shipping rates are dictated by the Royal Mail and I am afraid we cannot avoid these at this stage as I am based in the United Kingdom.
Although there are plans to manufacture and distribute them in the United States sometime in 2017.
I created them with crochet in mind but I have clients who knit and use them for knitting hats as well. Basically, the width of the template gives you the width of the crown desired size and the length of the same template gives you the recommended height for the same desired size. I cannot knit anymore so I have not tried it myself but the principle still applies.
I invented them by accident, cheer frustration at the time it took me to make a preemie hat (3 1/2 hours for my first one, it almost brought me to tears!) as I had pledged myself to make 20 hats for my local premature babies unit. And I thought, surely there must be a less painful and more productive way of doing it!
I guess I have to thank my Dad also for bringing me up with the view that “there are no such things as problems if you come up with solutions” combined with the fact that I also inherited his “stubborness” and that’s how the Izzy Crochet Hat Templates came about
